Shut-down unnecessary programs
I'm having trouble loading a game and the game's tech support told me to shut-down all programs but Explorer and Systray. When hitting ctrl-alt-delete, I see other programs running.
Navapw 32 (virus ?)
HPZSTATX
WINMGMT
POPROXY
WKCALREM (works calender wake on ring)
How do I disable the wake on ring, I never use it ?
I disabled Norton AV auto-protect, do I need to do something else?
I can guess that the POPROXY is part of my mail, if I shut it down, how do I get it back?
The other two, I have no clue what they are. I don't want to shut something off and not be able to find it again until I reboot, each time I play the game. This is my first time asking a question here, so if I cut in the wrong thread or violated any protocols, apologises in advance. Any help will be appreciated.

- See Denny's post (and especially his link which has a lot of great info) for more specifics...but I just wanted to respond to your question about not wanting to reboot each time you play your game in order to restart any programs you may have shut down with ctrl-alt-del.
At least for the poproxy program what you can do is find the 'poproxy.exe' file (it prolly is in /program files/norton or something like that). Make a shortcut to that and put it on your desktop or somewhere easy to find in your start menu. Then you can close it using ctrl-alt-del (since you don't want to uncheck it in config.sys because that would disable your email virus protections). Then after playing your game just double-click on the shortcut and poproxy will be back running in the background.
You can prolly do the same for other programs (like that hp one) but some may not work right. From my experience, poproxy can be restarted after ctrl-alt-deleting it. - There's an easy way to set up your system for games,
Go to this site and download this program

PC Magazine Extra's EndItAll v1.0
if you have a hard time finding it just search with the line above
you can choose which programs to leave up (Antivirus)and if you want everything back all you have to do is reboot.
I use it for Falcon 4.0 which is a big resourse hog, it works well.
much faster way to shut down than ctrl-alt del, or ms config

You might find the second link under my signature enlightening.
Navapw32 is associated with Norton Antivirus.
HPZSTATX is not familiar to me, but I suspect it is connected to some Hewlett-Package equipment.
WINMGMT is a part of the "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), which is the Microsoft implementation of Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM), which is an industry initiative to develop a standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment" (taken from a Microsoft site). If you are not involved in Enterprise Computing, you dont' need it.
POPROXY is your email antivirus.
You can merely uncheck these on the Startup tab of msconfig (reach it by going to Start|Run, typing msconfig and hitting OK) if you don't want them at all. If you don't uncheck them and "End Task" on them using Ctrl-Alt-Delete they will be back when you reboot.
