I have a brand new, arrived this afternoon, XPS 8500 running windows 7. When I try to turn on System Restore, I get a message "There was an unexpected error in the property page. The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect (0x8007007B0. Please close the property page and try again."

I get this message when I go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection which brings up a window called System Properties. At the top of the window labeled System Protection that lists three items under available drives: Recovery, OS (C:) (System) and OS (C:) (Missing). I have been able to get the Protection listed for the two (C:) as On, but when I turned both on I got the above message. When I go to Configure and try to make any changes, I sometime get the message "The setting changes could not be made. The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect (0x8007007B0)."

A was able to create a restore point but have been afraid and frustrated to try to see if it worked. I have not called tech support because they will tell be to go back to factory settings. This already happened once today when the system was 30 minutes old and the keyboard was acting strange.

1. What can I do to fix this?

2. What is that OS (C:) (Missing)?

3. I read somewhere that this problem could be helped by turning on Volume Shadow Copy service but cannot find that.
