5150 Replacement

I have an Inspiron 5150 with a motherboard that's been replaced three times, but I'm still having the same old problems (shutting down, etc.). Now, thanks to the extended warranty, Dell has agreed to replace my system. I'm just curious what they will replace it with. I've chatted with tech support, and all they've told me is that it will be a refurbished system.

Has anyone else had a 5150 replaced lately? What did they replace it with? How long did it take? Were the specs similar (or better than) your old system?

Thanks?

Dave

I appreciate the response. I figured they wouldn't send a 5150, which is a big relief. Anything would be an improvement, as long as the specs are similar. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

He is right, they don't ship put 5150's any longer so to get one would be pretty slim, and in replacement you will recieve the Inspiron E1505 most likely

Given the reliability history of the 5150, anything is an improvement.

You could conceivable receive another 5150, but it's more likely you'll get an E1505/6400 system. Yes, the CPU clock speed will be lower but the Core CPUs are quite a bit faster than the P4 even at their reduced clock speed.

For the record, the replacement system is an Inspiron 6400. I'm very happy with it. It says refurbished, but it looks brand new. It arrived very quickly, too.

My 5150 is going in for its fourth motherboard.  I'm really surprised that Dell would spend all this money to repair and obvious lemon without offering to replace my system.  I guess with only 90 days left on the extended warranty they figure they won't have to replace it too many more times.  Unfortunatly for Dell, event though their tech support has been good, after 4 trips to the service center, my next motherboard will say HP on it.
