9 cell battery failure
We have an Inspiron 6000 that we purchased about 15 months ago. We bought an extra 9 cell battery (C5447, unfortunately not one of the recalls) that has been used roughly 1/2 the time (wifey forgot it was in there for a while or it probably would have been used more!) that up and died. No warning, no decrease in battery life when installed, just quit providing power.
One night it was fully charged and unplugged. The next morning it had (apparently) zero power. Nothing shows on the on-board LED charge meter, and shows zero and not charging on the battery status meter on the laptop. This battery clearly did not wear out, as batteries are inclined to do. It failed. It is due either to a material failure or poor workmanship (or, yes, damage caused by the user, but clearly this is not the case since it sat on the table in the laptop over night between full charge and dead status) and it seems that there ought to be some recourse besides buying another $150 battery that might just as well fail on me. I'm not a happy camper.
Any suggestions, experiences, or similar woes?
