Battery Meter Broken?
The meter (the thing in the taskbar/tray that says how much battery charge there is and whether the battery is draining or charging) is broken. I think it is because I used a Targus charger and I wasn't supposed to. Anyway, can I fix it now that I got rid of the Targus and am now using the authorized Dell charger? I have a E1705 .laptop. Thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to the Community. Try installing Dell Quickset using the below link. Like SpeedStep suggested, if the port itself is damaged then it will not help.

Hi jboxford,
You can try the following steps and check if the system works.
1. Disconnect the Battery and AC Adapter, press and hold down the Power button for 15 to 20 seconds and then connect the Battery and AC Adapter. Now try starting the system.
2. If the above step doesn't work, try starting the system only with Ac Adapter (without Battery) and Only with Battery.

The Battery Taskbar ICON is controlled in the Control panel. If you have damaged the charge input a new adapter will not help.
