Checkered Screen

Hey Everyone
I've been trying to find information about this, but I'm not quite sure what to search for.

I have an inspiron 8200 laptop. I started it up today and all of a sudden the screen seems to be checkered. What I mean by that is it's as if there's a mesh screen streched from left to right accross my screen and within each rectangle of the screen there's a different color filter. I thought maybe it was my graphics driver, but I don't think it is because when I restart my computer, the dell startup screen is also checkered blue and black.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Thanks!

Attach an external monitor. Does it work OK? If so, the display panel may be faulty. Reseat the flex cable running from the video card to it.

If it shows the same thing, the video card is likely faulty.

Well... I tried that and an interesting thing happened... I plugged in the external monitor and the LCD screen cleared right up. Strange... maybe it's a loose cable. If it happens again I'll take a look inside. By the way, is there any good manual on line as to how to take appart (and put back together) an inspiron 8200?

(By the way... I don't think it's a faulty graphics card because I just had it replaced over christmas break :p )
