I can't run "DellSystemDetect.exe" download today from Dell PC Diagnostics web site,

version 11.0.50727.1

Error Message: "is not a valid win32 application"

Where can I find a compatible version for Windows XP 32bit ?

Same problem on Latitude 830 - XP. Can't run detect to troubleshoot a black laptop screen."Not a win32 app"

Black screen--- Able to connect to external monitor no problem but need to get laptop screen working. During start-up the screen displays Dell logo in funny orange color. Sometimes I see all the way through to Welcomes to Windows on laptop screen & then it goes black. What is the correct driver for the 830 monitor? I think it might have been recently updated by driver detective. Thanks!

Does the system an nVidia video chip?  If it does, the chip has failed and is the cause of the problem.

Yes, these chips DO fail in such a way that the external image is OK while the internal ne is faulty.

If the video is Intel rather than nvidia, reconnect both ends of the cable that runs between the mainboard and display panel and check the hcable for damage.  if it's damaged, replace it;  if the cable is OK, replace the screen.

I downloaded the same "DellSystemDetect.exe"  file Mar 9 14 and when I tried to run it I got the same "is not a valid win32 application" error message.

Live Chat with Dell Support was no help, they referred me to "Pay As You Need" support or the Dell Community Forum which is how I got here

I am running Windows XP Home SP 3 on a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop computer.

I have the same problem with xp (trying to rig off line system for grandson). The detect file downloads an exe file that just generated a dellsystemdetect.application file that just says file type unknown if you try to run it. If you change to .exe, get the error you got.
