distorted screen at startup

I have a inspiron 1300, on bootup one third of the screen (right hand side) is blank, on a pc monitor orientation can be adjjusted anyone any ideas

    There's no way to adjust the LCD panel image. 

     

    Attach an external monitor - if it shows the same fault, the video chip is bad.  More likely it won't, which means the LCD panel is faulty.

    r u sure your computer is not just not strenching the boot image? can u confirm that its cut off (like are any image and/or words cut off because of this) and not just in a 4:3 aspect ratio?

     

    i am assuming your inspiron 1300 is widescreen (not sure) so your laptop monitor is either 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. if the boot image is in a 4:3 aspect ration then maybe ur computer just isn't streching it. Just a thought really as im really sure.

    The laptop is 16;10 the image is square gap to right, full image on external widescreen monitor but slightly fuzzy
