Driver CD-ROM

My new Inspiron 6000 did not ship with a  CD containing all the drivers for my system like my previous Dell notebooks have.

I have heard it is now routine for Dell not to ship a driver backup CD. Is it still possible to get such a CD, even if I have to pay for it?

Maybe but you would be better off just downloading the more current drivers from the Dell support site and burning them to CD for future use.

You'll have to call Dell to ask. The drivers are all available for download from support.dell.com.

You can download the drivers, but you need the utilities and programs CD to reinstall things like Sonic, Norton/McAfee, Dell Media ect....

Yes, I know I *could* download the needed drivers from the Dell site. However, I would never know exactly which drivers I need. I'm sure I would miss one or two. It was much easier when all the drivers customized for my particular system were in one place on a CD. The question remains: Is it possible to buy such a disk?

Well that's just it. The CD that came with the systems was NOT customized for your unit. It was for ALL units of that MODEL. So you would have drivers you may not need. If you download all drivers for your model you will have all the drivers you need.

Also, putting your service tag into the download site gives you the same stuff that would have been on the CD... Just refer to your invoice or the Service section of the site to decide which hardware is exactly in your box...
