e1505 Replacement

Hi All --

(i think i originally posted this in the wrong forum - first time here :D)

anyway, my e1505 was having a ton of hardware problems, and after speaking to dell, we decided to get it replaced (still under warranty). I got the replacement today, and was happy to see it was a new 1520.

The only issue is (if it is an issue), that the processor seems to be a downgrade from what i have in my e1505.

In the e1505: Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 1.6ghz
In the 1520: Intel Dual Core T2330 1.6ghz Did i just go from a core 2 to a core 1? If

it is indeed a downgrade, should i not bother moving data over and shipping it back - and get another? Thanks for any help.

Like ejn63 suggested, The difference in processors will not be noticable to the average user if at all. The other devices may be however, especially the system memory and the video card. I would check these and if they are the same or close, I think you are just as well off with the newer system. Did they give you another full year of warranty? These are the things that I would corcern myself with. Hope this helps.

Is the system up-spec'd otherwise (i.e., nVidia vs. integrated video) - there are other things to consider.

Both are Core 2 Duo. The T2330 has half the on core cache, so it will be slightly slower than the T5200, 1MB vs. 2MB.

    thanks for the quick replies!

as far as being up-specced goes, the videocard (currently an x1400) has been significantly upgraded to the 256mb geforce 8600m.

other than that, the other specs are identical.

given those stats, would you consider sending it back - and asking for the same processor? as was mentioned, i'm an average user with gaming/photshopping thrown in occasionally, so i don't know if i'll notice the difference. and i hadn't asked about a warranty extension - that's a great idea.

    thanks again!

You will notice a more responsive system with the faster graphics card than the little less processor performance. That will not be noticeable but the graphics may be.

Take what they gave you - it's the last Inspiron in that chassis size you'll see with that level of video. The 1520 is a nearing the end of its life, so they could then well send you a 1525, which has Intel-integrated video only.

From the looks of it, Dell is revamping its lineup to match the other vendors' - discrete video cards are disappearing rapidly from all but the very high end. Even the XPS M1530, while offering nVidia video, no longer has a separate card, but soldered in video.

    Thanks very much all --

You made a good point about the discrete video card (the reason I bought this machine), so I'm going to stick with the 1520 I was sent.

    Thanks again.
