I8600 GPU temperature question
I got my new I8600 few days back. I have a question about the GPU temperatures. My GPU is running around 150+F. Is it normal, because the GPU fan kicks in every 5 minutes or so.
I am not playing any games..just browsing internet and stuff. The GPU fan is noisy..so I called dell support and they told me they will be replacing the fan. But support says all GPU fans are the same, they will only replace it only once, if I have the same noise problem, they can't help it.
So I just want to know if it is ok to run the system at that temperatures.
Pentium M -- 1.5A GHz / 512MB RAM/ 60GB HTS548060M9AT00/ WUXGA/ Geforce 5200 32MB/ Intel Pro wireless 2200 B/G.

On the i8600 BIOS, the GPU fan and the CPU fan always turn on simultaneously for BIOS versions over A00, so it can also be the CPU temperature that causes the fans to come on. 150°F would be 65°C, which is nearly exactly the temperature my GPU runs at the moment (63°C). When doing normal office work, GPUP temp should be around 60-65°C (140-150°F), when watching movies, it can go up to 70°C (158°F). During games it can reach 100°C (212°F).
I can confirm that my GPU fan is noisy, but I have seen other i8600's, i8500's an Precision M60's where the GPU is barely audible when running.
What can you do to not make the fans come on more often than necessary? You can set your power scheme to "Portable/Laptop", or if you have SpeedSwitchXP, set it to "Dynamic Switching" if you believe that it is the CPU that causes the fans to come on, or if you believe it's the GPU, try using power saving on the GPU. On the nVidia it's called Powermizer, and if I set it to "balanced", the GPU runs much cooler (however I don't recommend this setting for playing games, although it works).
