Latitude C600 boot problem

I have a Latitude C600 with Bios Version A23. Whenever I turn on the power, the HDD powers on for about 2 seconds (I can hear it), then it tells me that there is no primary HDD and to use either F1 or F2 to boot.  I have some very important information on this laptop and would just like to get it working to pull the information. Thanks in advance.

Try and check in BIOS to see if the Hard disk is detected in Bios by pressing F2,and if there is an error message that says "Primary hdd 0  not found" it could be that youre hard disk has just crashed.

Sometimes it boots and sometimes it doesn't.  Makes me wonder if the board is cracked at the HDD connectors.

Have you checked the bios too se  if it already detected,if no it's probably the hdd and if you do get a known good hdd to test and the hdd manages to detect in BIOS it is only the hard disk issue and if it is still intermittent it is definitely the mainboard issue.
