Model C600 LCD - no backlight
The screen on the laptop is so dim that I can barely see the windows options. I am able to see the information (windows & buttons) but I can not read any of the text. I suspect that the back light is out for the lcd screen. Is this something that is easily or cheaply fixed? The three year warranty ran out right before this happened. I have been able to hook it up to an external monitor but I have a need to use it on the road so that isn't feasible. I have never taken one of these apart but if I can get some directions, I would be able to do so. Any advise would be appreciated.
- I took your advice, Chris, and opened up the screen of the laptop using the guide. It wasn't easy but I got down to the bulb. I then contacted part-people looking for the backlight bulb. They said they do not sell them only the who screen unit. Do you or anyone else know where I can get a bulb? Further, if I decide to get a used screen they asked what kind: XGA or SXGA. They said it would be on the laptop but I can't find any reference to this designation. Know where I can find this?Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,
You may want to repost about the bulb, the type of screen can be determined by the part number of the LCD, or the resolution it will run at. It will be on the build list and on file at Dell where you can access the info. I thought you would only go to the LCD, you must be keen. There are some specialist LCD repairer's mentioned in some other posts, have a browse for them and good luck.

Hi,
It is most likely the backlight, the screen assy comes with the invertor. Try parts-people for a replacement. From the product support tab above you can find the manual to take it apart.
