I have a Latitude E6510. I successfully upgraded from Win7 32bit to Win 64bit with the original 7200rpm hhd. I replaced the spinner with a Samsung 830 SSD and did a clean install with the same 64bit upgrade disk again. I had four yellow !'s in Device Manager. Two entries were Broadcom unknown and another unknown device. After searching, I found both of them and moved them using usb thumb drives. The Ethernet adapter and the Network adapter still have yellow !'s. I've downloaded every thing I can find that could be close from Dell but the errors remain. A help suggestion is to connect to the internet and update the drivers - joke. That is the problem, it will not connect to the internet. I plug a ethernet directly from the modem to the laptop. Nothing. I'm trying to do a clean install so I can get rid of a lot of junk. Since it is an upgrade disk, maybe I can't do a complete install and I have to just transfer the messy files all onto the SSD. I have everything saved to a second hhd. Or I guess I could get a full box version. I don't know if the price has come way down since version 8 is out. I am very weary.

Hi oneartist,
I’d suggest that you update BIOS, Dell system software, chipset driver and Ethernet card drivers on your computer to check for issue resolution.
Please follow the link below. When the page comes up please put in the service tag of your computer. Then go ahead and download the drivers, after selecting the operating system installed on your computer, from the link below. Install it in sequence given below the link.
- BIOS
- Dell system software (Refer to System utilities section)
- Chipset
- Ethernet card (Refer to Network section)
Please let me know if this helps.
The Service Tag is a really good program. I do have a few suggestions. The oldest BIOS update required could not be found either using "previous versions" or a Dell search. I entered the A02 search in Google an it directed me to in with Dell, but Dell could not find it. I had to transfer the files on a flash drive and it would have been easier if the naming of the files remained more consistent after they were downloaded. Initially I did not install the video drivers correctly and I had not Optical drive and I could not load some files without Outlook which I could not install. Eventually I reloaded the video drive correctly and then it went smoothly. Between the great help on this forum and the Service Tag feature, I will consider buying more Dell products. I have experienced conflicting (actually opposite) information from sales staff at Dell in the past, but this forum is great. Thanks again for your help.
Thanks Ravi. It's 3:00AM and I woke up and thought the same thing. I need to install the original 32bit XP version first, or as you suggest, the original drivers which are directly related to my network hardware. That's why the first upgrade worked because the hardware on the computer was properly installed. The correct order link is something I would not have thought of. Thanks again. I have to work today so it will be a while.
As I've been thinking about this, I think it may be best to go back and install the original XP win7 32 bit version first and then do the upgrade installation. Right now, I'm missing the drivers for the internet, but there may be others that are not so obvious. Any opinions?
