Precision M6800

I understand that the Dell M6800 has a backlit keyboard but mine doesn't seem to? I've never noticed it and cannot find anywhere to turn it off or on. According to the dell detect app it's "late 2013" model. Did some not come with this feature?

or can someone tell me how to fix it?

Thanks

N

    Hi,

Please press Fn+ Right arrow key to enable the backlight on the keyboard.

Thanks but that makes no difference .

Are there any settings anywhere on the laptop where I can do it?

Is a special keyboard driver required rather than the generic keyboard one installed?

Is there a possible problem with Windows 8.1 with this (I'm wondering because it also doesn't seem to have an ambient light detector)?

Were any versions of this laptop sold with no backlight and no ambient light detector? Obviously if that were the case then that might explain it.

    Hi nozzac,

If the above option has not worked. Please go into the BIOS (F2 during startup) and you should find Keyboard Illumination in it. Please enable it if it’s disabled.

Also, please private message us the system service tag so that we could check and assist you further. To send a private message, click on my name and send private message.

    Hi

There is no Keyboard Illumination in the BIOS - I've gone through every single setting twice and no sign of it.

    Hi nozzac,

You will find Keyboard Illumination under System Configuration or I’d advise that you load defaults in the BIOS. Please follow the steps mentioned below to load the BIOS to defaults.

    1. Reboot the computer.
    2. When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
    3. On the System Setup screen, press the key.
    4. Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

No, there is no Keyboard Illumination in System Configuration only:

    Integrated NIC

    Parallel Port

    Serial POrt

    SATA Operation

    Drives

    SMART Reporting

    USB confguration

    USB powershare

    AUDIO

    Unobtrusive Mode

    Miscellaneous Devices

I'm not missing seeing Keyboard Illumination - it's not there!

Obviously I have already expanded all settings sub-trees and there is no Keyboard Illumination.
Pressing F9 has no effect. There is a Load Defaults button at the bottom of the BIOS page and I've tried this and it makes no difference.

Sounds like you are referring to a different BIOS to the one I'm looking at.

    Thanks

    Neil

    I have the same problem.

Please give me a solution. A dark keyboard in a dark room is useless.
