re: WEB PC recovery cd
I have been round and round with tech support on this issue:
I have a crashed computer.
I do not have my recovery cd. I need a recovery cd but have been told that there are no WEB PC recovery cd's with Dell now. I was told this evening that I have to reformat my hard drive but was either given the incorrect command prompt or I have a serious hardware problem that should be corrected under my warranty.....
Now, I just noticed a post from Suzzane regarding the cd:
All drivers for the system can be downloaded from the download tab near the top of the forum. You would need to purchase a legitimate copy of the Operating System software.
Suzanne where might I purchase this legitimate copy and I hope it isnt from a Rent-a-Center.....
Sincerely,
Aprilshaw

Thank you for replying.....I apologize if I sounded short in my post but my computer has crashed and without a recovery CD well....you know....
Any way I was very fortunate to find a very helpful tech through email and they ran a diagnostic test from there end...it seems that the hard drive had crashed and they are sending a tech out to replace it because I am still under warranty.....
so I am very happy right now about that.
Now of course in the future I still have no recovery CD.
My new questions are these:do you know where to purchase a retail version? and can you tell me what to do when the computer is back up and running as far as making an emergency backup CD in case this happens again?
Thanking you in advance,
April
- Aprishawl,
You can purchase a retail version of the Operating System at just about any computer or electronic store (best buy, circuit city, compusa). Windows XP will run on the WebPC but it is not supported by Dell, but I have seen users using XP with the only problem being finding a modem driver.
I believe they had to locate a modem driver on the manufacturers website. hllywud2420

Since the WebPC has been out of production for over two years the Recovery cd is no longer available. I believe that what Suzzanne was referring to is that if you no longer have your original Operating System cdrom or your Recovery cdrom then you will need to purchase a retail version of the Operating System. You can then download any drivers that you may need.
Thank you for choosing Dell.
