Screen flicker

My monitor is flickering, I've upgraded and downgraded my drivers to see if it would help. Nothing. I updated my BIOS because I thought that was the problem, it's not. I have an anti virus program installed because I thought that a virus might be the problem, it's not. The flickering is interfering with my assignments and such, when I'm working, sometimes the screen will flicker and bring up an application that's already open, or it'll move the apps down the taskbar. (I even adjusted the refresh rate but that did nothing either.)

I would like a solution that would work, please, thanks.

    Hi,

I can't give you more definitive answers or suggestions without having a better idea of what model of laptop you have and what video card is installed in it (along with the current video driver version #) but here are a few things I would suggest to check:

    1. Go into your System Setup (BIOS) to see whether you see the flickering there as well.  Since the BIOS runs off of the basic system video if you don't see the flickering issue it would help determine whether it's a software problem or hardware.  If you see the flickering then chances are it's a hardware issue.

    2. Attach an external monitor to the laptop and see whether the flickering is noticed on the external monitor.

    3. Go to our main support site, input your service tag, and run the diagnostics available for your system.

    4. Turn off your system and then, while holding down the 'D' key push the power button.  That should also start up the diagnostics.

    5. Check the resolution and refresh settings on your system to make sure you don't have them set too high (or too low) for your LCD screen to handle.

Let me know the results of the above suggestion, as well as what model of system you have and what version of Windows you're running on it, and I'll see what else I can suggest for you to try.
