Touchpad help

I need help!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP. However I am now have issues when typing that I also had when I had XP. When I am typing the cursor suddenly jumps and starts typing somewhere else. I solved the problem in XP by downloading the touchpad driver and then disabling the touchpad. However with this new operating system I cannot find the touchpad as a device at all. Can anyone please help, it is driving me nuts!

TouchPad should be listed in the Device Manager. An icon should also be found in the Notification area of the Task Bar. Should also be a folder in Program Files and an Icon in Control Panel. If none of these present, then ???? If the Pad, works, you must have a driver.

A free program called TouchFree sets the Pad to be disabled when you start typing, and active several seconds after stopping.

Yeah I think teh problem is that the touchpad device is not recognised???? Touchpad is not listed in the device manager, no icon in teh notification area of the task bar and is not listed in Program files or in teh control panel. And yes the pad does not work.....so confused and in need of more ideas.....?
