Touchpad Issue
Hi, I have an older Laptop, a Latitude D610. It's got the 2.13GHz processor and a Gig of memory runing XP Pro sp3. So it's a reasonably capable little machine.
My issue is with what the touchpad is doing. If you leave the pointer in one place for more than a heartbeat or two it "autoclicks" on whatever its sitting on. This can be quite frustrating. Currently I am trying to find out if this is a hardware or a software issue.
I am interested to hear if anyone hsa had a simular issue, what machine it was on, and what if anything fixed it. ....... And please, is it the "Alps" or thr "Synaptic" utility that works with this machine?? (D610)

I'm using Windows XP on a LATITUDE D610. How can I stop the touchpad from automatically linking to whatever it's on? If the cursor stays in one place for a few seconds the system automatically clicks on whatever it's pointing at (scroll bar, drop down menu, hyperlink, etc.) I downloaded the latest Synaptics touchpad driver from the Dell site, but it still only lists "Standard Point Device" on Port "PS/2" so I can't access the touchpad feature that controls the automatic action. I do not have an external mouse attached to the notebook.
Any and all suggestions on how to stop this are welcome!
