Vostro V13 Hard Disk - Controller Problem

I have had my V13 for under 4 months and have had the same problem twice already. The symptom is that when the computer starts up the blue bar stops and after about 3 minutes I get a black screen and then a few sentences whereas at the end I get "Missing Operating System". A month after I got the laptop I got the problemt the first time. I called Dell and they said that the hard disk is faulty and they will send a technician the next day. This they did but sent the guy with only a hard disk. Turns out that the disk is fine and the problem is the disk controller which is together with the sound card. So the technician had to come back the next day as he did not have the part with him. Today, 2 and a half months later I got the problem again.

I searched the net and found that this is a common problem.

Same problem for me after Dell replaced both the hard drive and mother board. I replaced the audio board myself p/n M5NXV and problem solved. $45 for the part though, even check Youtube under "Vostro V13 hard drive problem" for more.

I am too facing the same problem... I tried to make them understand that since this is a very common problem and really speaking a manufacturing defect , it would be better to give a replacement of the laptop or atleast extend the warranty to another year without any charge.. but they simply fail to understand this and this is really driving me crazy... am definitely not going for dell products in the future...

yeah, I have the same issue one month out of warranty.  I have purchased 8 Dells in the past 5 years and I'm not sure I will buy another one.

I have the same problem and Dell should take notice. This is a manufacturer's defect!

I ordered the part  #M5NXV directly from Dell, I just checked and there's lots of these on eBay. This has not been my best notebook purchased from Dell by any means. I've just had to replace the battery as it would not hold a charge, and still have "Control point" errors.

I just checked the Youtube video I referenced earlier. As of today over 6000 views! No wonder Dell dropped this model.
