Wrong VideoCard Memory
I just got my new Inspiron Laptop yesterday which is supposed to have an 320-4655 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory, for Inspiron 6400/E1505. But when checking the stats, is only a 128MB. (Adapter RAM 128.00 MB (134,217,728 bytes)) Is this a hardware/system problem that should be fixxed somehow on my computer, or did they package the wrong video card? If so how hould it be delt with?

- Mike415,No, that is not shady. See the description you posted:320-4655 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory. That is what Hypermemory technology is. The graphics adapter has 128 MB dedicated memory and then uses 128 MB of system memory for the total 256 MB. I am almost willing to bet that all integrated graphics adapters use one form or another of shared memory.pcgeek11
- " I think it actually takes about 700 something mb of memory from the RAM. Its shady because I thought I was getting 256mb of dedicated video memory. "It is not using 700 MB of system Ram. Check start menu, Right click Computer Properties and see how much Ram is showing under system. Mine shows 1918 MB System Ram out of 2 GB. My video is also using shared Ram just like yours. You mean it is shady because you didn't read the information they had posted or didn't understand what you read when you bought your computer. This logic doesn't hold water I'm afraid.pcgeek11
- How is it not shady? It just says 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™ [Included in Price]. That was the only option so I was like cool 256mb of video ram on a laptop, maybe I could do a bit of decent gaming on it. Usually that means dedicated memory. If you hit let me choose it has a bunch of info on the GPUs and then in a subscript I see this 3 The total of local and shared system memory used by this graphics card is up to 256MB. Local on-board memory is 128MB. Up to 128MB of system memory is allocated to support graphics, depending on system memory size and other factors. Im not gunna read up on all that when its the only option.
- It is not shady because they tell you right there in plain black and white letters:256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™That is a trademark of ATI Cards, the one that Nvidia uses is called Turbocache memory. It has nothing to do with Dell anyway it is an ATI or Nvidia marketing thing. Notice the TM.If you are too lasy to research then don't complain. Just like voting.pcgeek11

Though I agree buyers must do research, that wouldn't be quite so necasary without deceptive marketing.
Exactly. its like if it had an option of 4gb HyperRAM, but really its 2gb of RAM and 2GB of HD Cache. You obivously wouldnt check it out because theres nothing to make uyou think its not 4gb of ram, you thik its faster RAM.
