Recently purchased a brand new in box 1704fpt monitor off of ebay after frying my original monitor that came with computer with milk... don't ask. Trying to find the service code to put on the warranty, but can't find it anywhere on the back of the monitor. Where is it located at? I found the barcode area, but it doesn't have anything that resembles a service code or service tag like on the back of my dimension.
Usually a monitor is shipped with a system and because of that it does not have a servicetag as the computer, printer or wireless router has. It only has a serialno (usually located on the backside) beginning with two letters.
If your monitor does not have a service tag number you will need to have the order number or the customer number that the monitor was purchased under when contacting Dell.

I purchased a monitor that was originally purchased as part of a system with a 3 year warranty. I have the order number but not the service tag number as yet. If all I have is the order number and monitor serial number - is the monitor still covered by the 3 year warranty. If so - do I have to do any transfer of ownership now or just address it if I ever need service?
If the monitor was purchased when the system was then, it is covered with the system warranty. You would need to contact customer care at 1-800-624-9897 or email csd@dell.com and transfer the ownership.
