This sounds like a defective panel. Neither of those parts would correct a panel issue. Post a picture of the issue here. The Logic board is the brain of the display. The Inverter board provides power to the panel and all the ports.
I've got 2 such monitors purchased together 5 years ago operating in 2 completely different environnements. One has developped the "half screen" issue about 6 months ago. The second one is occasionally showing vertical discouloured bands on the left or the right of the screen. Below is the result of my investigations.
For some time, we were able to control the half screen issue by blowing a desk fan at the back of the monitor [this seemed to point toward a capacitor issue] -- it would then revert to a normally readable screen and you'd benefit from a beautiful breeze in the face. After a few months, this would not work anymore.
I dissassembled the monitor and noticed 2 things :
The few capacitors visible showed no visible defects -- most are tiny surface mounted elements and impossible to check in any easy manner.
The 8 flat connectors connecting the LCD to the PCB match the width(s) of the visible defects.
I got a partial success by blowing a connector cleaner below the plastic of the flexible connectors where they connect to the PCB and by applying pressure to the connections. I sandwiched the PCB between a rubber strip on one side and a length of polystyrene on the other. I now 'only' have a single defect stripe corresponding to only one of the connectors in the middle of the screen.
I am not 100% certain I am acting on the actual cause of the problem but this is the state of my investigations.
I am disappointed that no one at Dell has dug into this issue which is described in various places on the web. I like the quality of the LCD that I find soft on the eyes and wish I could make them last longer. I for one would not buy another monitor from Dell unless I am convinced this issue cannot happen in the new models.
I don't have a problem with DELL not wanting to invest into a solution for an "out of life-cycle" piece of equipment.
But, this 2001FP vertical band issue has been around since 2006 (http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/17850340/17978638.aspx#17978638) and I would hope that there was some investigation on the issue...at least enough to determine the root of the problem so individuals can make a decision on whether to replace parts or replace the whole monitor.
