Linux Mint should use standard EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) communication through your HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C cable to detect your monitor’s native resolution and refresh rate automatically. Also, this appears to be a good Linux Mint forum to ask other user with Dell monitors.

It makes sense for a manufacturer to include drivers in the kernel. That way one doesn't have to hunt for drivers & install them.
When the kernel is updated, the driver can also be updated.
I reckon that you've answered my questions.
Thank you!
