So my Dell S2440L Monitor works fine most of the time, but every now and then (usually after I restart the computer or I'm trying to wake it up from sleep) the monitor will insist that no display is found, and it will go into sleep mode. The only way to get it out is to hard reboot my pc. First, this has happened with two different computers and two different HDMI cables, so I'm fairly certain it's not the computer. I'm currently running a Ryzen 7 2700X with 16 GB ram, evga GTX 960 FTW, and Gigabyte x470 Aorus. Brand new. My previous computer was an intel i-3. I did try both the GPU and On-board HDMI outputs to no avail. I just updated the driver, but it's from 2014, so I don't have very high hopes.
Gotcha. If I buy a monitor that is reliant on a driver to function properly, I'll be sure to purchase one from a company that actually supports said driver longer than a couple years. Great advice, thank you.
A six year old 2012 monitor on Windows 10 without any tested Windows 10 specific driver for the monitor. I can see why it is having issues. Do not use Windows 10 sleep mode. In its power management settings, set both, "Turn off the display", and, "Put the computer to sleep" to Never. Then just set a screensaver to come on after 5 minutes.
It stinks that perfectly good monitors are now reliant on drivers that aren't supported past a few years.
I'll try those suggestions, though to be honest it's not so much a problem with sleep mode as far as I can tell. This problem did occur at least once when trying to come back from sleep mode, but it happens more frequently when I restart the computer. I feel like it may have something to do with the cycling of power from on to off to on again being different than turning the computer on from being completely off?
Any other suggestions are welcome, though I understand this may just be one of those cases of forced obsolescence.
Okay, so I've narrowed the issue down to ONLY when I restart the computer, which means changing the sleep options is ineffective. But if I restart (rather than shut down), the monitor is no longer displayed as previously discussed.
So, are there any generic windows drivers that may fix the issue? Any other work-arounds? Is this a common issue with Dell monitors? Any other Dell monitor drivers that may work for this one?
There are no known Windows 10 drivers for this six year old monitor never tested/validated with Windows 10. Windows 10 will use its generic monitor PNP driver.
I agree with onipar. Dell stopped driver support for my monitor U2713HM one and a half years after I bought it. After getting burned on this, I'll look for a company with better support. When, I mentioned the lack of support in the other thread, he moderator locked the topic from further comment.
