I just received this monitor, plugged it in to the DVI port on my Vista box (same port my 1907 was plugged into), set it to native resolution, and am really unimpressed with the text. Graphics look fine, but text looks like it looks when the monitor is set below native resolution, or like Clear Type was off (it's on). I've initiated a return on this monitor, but figured I'd ask if this was a common problem before I ship it back. Hopefully I just got a bad one, or there's something different I can try with it. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I tried two different ones of this monitor. Both of them had a real problem displaying correct colors. In particular the greys came out looking purplish and the light blues were purple. Tried adjusting it many, many ways and never could get it to look right. Attached it to two other comptuers with the same problem.
The text was not impressively clear on it either. I went back and reattached my Dell 19" WS and everything looked alot better. I was pretty disappointed because I LOVED the size of the screen.
1906FP - Excellent. Wish I still had it, but it belonged to the company.
1907FP - Pretty good, though more backlight bleed than the 1906.
2007WFP - Not bad, though not up to the 1906 or 1907 IMHO.
SP2208WFP - Garbage for anyone but gamers and people watching movies on their computers, at least the one I tried was.
My main concern in a monitor is text, I don't care about watching movies on them. I do fire up a game occasionally, and they are all fine for that, as far as I'm concerned.
I just ordered one of these, based on the two professional reviews that both emphasize text quality:
Then I suppose the SP2208WFP is simply inferior to previous Dell LCD's regarding text quality?
I'm only holding onto the monitor hoping that Dell will discover that something must be wrong with this batch of monitors (similar to the issues with the A03 batch panel on the Dell 2007WFP).
Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll have to look for a replacement.
Funny...how Dell says there is no problem. I've been on tech support for days now with the exact same text problem. These people must be just imagining things, right? http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=2132912&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=1 http://discussions.Apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6128635&tstart=0 http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2007/10/dell_sp2208wfp_out_in_japan.html http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&thread.id=84830&view=by_date_ascending&page=4
I'm another person with an sp2208wfp monitor that is experiencing very blurry text. I used to have a 1905fp monitor and it was perfect. I am very disappointed with the 22" monitor and will be returning it if Dell can't solve this problem soon.
I am also having blurry text on the SP2208WFP just received with my Inspiron 530s desktop. Very disppointed at first. However the situation is helped moderately with the following setup adjustment as:
