Active directory backup by NMM 8

I have to configure AD backup on Windows Server 2012 R2 using networker and NMM 8.2. In Admin guide Save Set should be APPLICATIONS:\ADAM instance_name Writer, what that means? What is ADAM instance_name Writer? Is that name of the server? Is there any else thing I have to know?

    Hi Milorad

ADAM stands for Active Directory Application Mode, more info here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Directory

Better check with your AD admin as he will know exactly how they have AD configured.

First of all you need to let us know what kind of backup are you referring to, is it granular backup?

If granular, then configuration is slightly different, as the backup command as well as the saveset should look like this:

    Backup command:

    nsradsave.exe

For the saveset, for example, if your domain was corp.domain.com

The saveset to backup the whole domain should be:

    DC=corp,DC=domain,DC=com

Full backup of the entire AD is done via NetWorker client, using the saveset "WINDOWS ROLES AND FEATURES" as per documentation:

The NetWorker software automatically backs up AD as a component of the the WINDOWS ROLES AND FEATURES save sets, which are included in a Windows BMR backup . An AD backup or restore includes the AD log files, database, patch files, and expiry token.

Please let us know if you need any further information.

    Thank you,

    Carlos

    Hello,

Is there a way to back up the active directory server with both options?

Disaster recovery and object level backup? As far as I have seen as this is a client setting, both ways can not be backed up right?

    Thanks

AD backups can be backed up using NMM only while as Diaster_recovery save set will be done using Legacy networker client.
