Since the Networker version and the OS which you are using are no longer supported, I may have to research more on this and get back to you with an update.
I will post you once I have some information on this
Earlier, version 7.4SP5 was installed on the client and the backup of save set “E:\” failed always. The restart of backup never helped.
Then, we downgraded the networker software on client to the version 7.3.2.Build.364 and it became better. That error appears again, but the restart of backup helps sometimes.
71909:save: Failed to close save session: Sync'ing a file failed ([5057] File handle is stale). : Failed to close save session: Sync'ing a file failed ([5057] File handle is stale).
So I ran backup in D6 mode and now error is ::::
savegrp: suppressed 3 lines of verbose output Attempting to bind IPv4 socket descriptor 712 Socket bound to OS determined port Setting RPC socket send buffer size to 65536 Setting RPC socket recv buffer size to 65536 Bound TCP/IPv4 socket descriptor 712 to port 8079 RPC Authentication: Client successfully obtained RPCSEC_GSS credentials Acquiring lock for BSAFE: BSAFE file making the request: .\..\common\os\rand\r_rand.c, line: 126 Releasing lock for BSAFE: BSAFE file making the request: .\..\common\os\rand\r_rand.c, line: 128 RPC Authentication: Client successfully obtained RPCSEC_GSS credentials win32_post_save(): Called : Failed to close save session: Sync'ing a file failed ([9] Error not set).
File handle stale is something I had with Oracle backups after NW8 upgrade, but in your case it is file system backup. If you use ddboost and if these backups are big, you may wish to check modifying OST_ABANDON_TIMEOUT but that needs to be confirmed by support first. Since it happens with two clients only, it is obvious that conditions which lead to this error are specific to something related to these two (like timeout setting of some kind).
