broadcom ethernet problem

heres the scenario... i bought my inspiron 6000 a couple of weeks ago and mainly for gaming purposes and i would like it to connect to the internet as well. my desktop has cable modem ready and i tried hooking up my notebook into the cable modem, it acquired the address to connect but then it shows "limited or no connectivity" message. i tried numerous ways that i kno to connect or make a new connection such as network connection wizard but it didnt work...

any suggestions how i could resolve the issue?

can you post the IP address. it should not start with 169.254... or 0. then try pinging the default gateway. also try to ping a website, like yahoo or google. check if it replies. or whether it is 0% loss or 100% loss.

if it starts with 169.254 it is not connected to the internet.

I am having a similar problem - Inspiration 6000 - I tried using the ethernet connection for the first time yesterday at work and it does not reconize the connection at all - I tried everything and nothing - so I tried using a port that I know was working because another system had just been using it and nothing.

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
