Is the cable modem resyncing? (do you see the lights on the cable modem change)?  If that is what is happening it would appear to be a Cable or cable modem issue.  In that case, contact your cable company.

Otherwise more info is need.  Are you getting any messages ont he PC about the "Local Area Network"? or any other notice on the PC?   You haven't really provided enough info for anyone to offer anything other than some general suggestions.

The lights on the cable modem stay the same as if the internet is working correctly.  No messages show up on the computer either.  Nothing lets me know that there is a problem.  I just fall on and off line.  ??????????

I just looked at my network connections and one of my local area connections is unplugged.  Would that be the problem? If so what do I do to fix it?

Power off the PC, then do a power reset on the cable modem (unplug the power to the modem, wait 1 minute (this is critical) then power the cable modem back on and wait until it's completely back in sync (all lights are normal).  Then power up the PC and let it boot up.  See if that helps anything.

It could be a bad modem, a bad Ethernet interface cable between the PC and modem or a bad NIC (Ethernet) card in the PC.  Unfortunately it will take some technical expertise, locally, to figure out where the problem is.  You can try to "reseat" the Ethernet cable (unplug it and then plug it back in at the PC and modem ends) and you could try to "refresh" the NIC card by uninstalling it in the Windows Device Manager then restart Windows and let Windows redetect and install it.  In both the Ethernet cable and the NIC card uninstall/reinstall you will probably have to restart the PC after each procedure and may have to repower the Cable modem to get everything back operating.  If you have to repower the cable modem, make sure the PC is off when you do that so it will reconnect when you power up the PC.
