Dell Dimension 2400 Network Connection missing

Hi:I have Windows xp home. when I created a new dial up connection from start/control panel/network/Internet connections/network connections/create a new connection/ everything works fine and the connection is created and displayed as Dial up connection in the network connections folder. the problem is the two computer screens that show your online status and also where you can disconnect from the net are missing.The only way i disconnect now is by logging off or restarting. I know there is an option in dial-up settings to display these icons and it is turned on. I would really appreciate help from someone that knows what is going on
BTW:I have Tried Everything I can think off To make the Two
little Computers Show Up @ the Taskbar with no joy
I was Wondering IF there any Bugs with WinXP HE

    If you are saying that you already have a tick in the 'show icon in notification area when connected' box for that dial-up connection then you could right click the task bar, select properties and see if you have 'Hide inactive icons' ticked. If so click 'customise', see if the icon is present and check if it's set to 'always hide'. This can be changed by use of the drop-down list. I've no idea why it would be but it's all that comes to mind.

    PS you can disconnect from 'Network connections' pro tem.
