Ethernet connection problems

Hi Group,

I have an Inspiron 6000 with W-XP.  Wireless works good, but the ethernet will not connect reliably to the LAN/Internet.  On rare occasions it will connect, but normally it will not.  The quicklaunch icon shows the connect and shows finding the IP address.  Then...the icon disappears.  When the icon disappears, the computer will not connect to the Internet.  If the icon does not disappear, a very rare situation, the computer will connect.  This is with any direct connection such as a hotel connection or with an ethernet connection to a router.

I have a Broadcom440x10/100 adapter, under Network Connections, it shows the adapter as connected.  Under Device Manager it shows the device is working properly.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks.

Go to the Dell download site and download the latest drivers for your network adapter.  Then, go into Device Manager, unininstall the ethernet network adapter, reboot, and install the drivers you previously downloaded.
