need help with BCM v.92 56k modem

hi, i have windows XP pro on my lap top, and i cant connect to internet using me dell inspiron 5100, it keeps giving , " there is no modem configured. please configure a modem and restart registration process. well i thought i may have had bad drivers but the modem is installed properly, and no !!!! <--these next to it so it should be working. well i updated the drivers with file R58028 still no luck it removes the modem then reinstalls and i get same error... what am i doin wrong this should be working

    Looking for Windows-98 drivers for this modem (as shipped with new Inspiron 600m laptop).  Technically, this modem has the part number BCM94154M but it's a Broadcom chip but the number doesn't match anything I can find on the web (like 4211 and 4213).  There is some indication that this is an AMR (Audio Modem Riser?) made by Intel (or that the driver is available from intel - ICH4 (AC'97 Modem)?  Anyone know of a link to that software?

    Try using the generic drivers available at this site.

    ok i've downloaded 4 drivers soo far, r55855, r57260, r58028 and a generic one, no luck yet, maybe you can find me the right one please,

    I take it you loaded XP Pro from a clean install.  Then got the modem driver from the Dell cd, and tried updating from the website?  If so, you could be using the wrong brand modem driver - look here for the communication drivers offered, there are three.  I would look at the modem and find a manuf. name on it:

    stupid aol got the modem to work but no other program could do it, problem is aol aint my isp, my isp is att, still getting same error no modem configured, sounds like this modem is a piece of junk, cuz everyone having probs with it

    Did you look at the modem physically to verify the brand?  Also, AOL replaces the Windows dialer with their own special one and it won't work with other ISPs.  Curse AOL not the modem.

    What happens if you use the driver from your Drivers CD?  What about when you use the driver available on the Downloads tab?
