network cable unpluged
windows xp SP2
intel pro 100 ve
I have tried to reinstalled this intigrated device and updated drivers to try and resolve problem. I am sure cables and Westell gateway are functioning as they work on another computer.

What model of desktop system do you have? And where did you get the drivers you've installed?
Did you get them off the 'Drivers & Downloads' page for your system on the Dell website, or off the Intel website?
BTW: Why are you still using XP SP2 - when XP SP3 has been available for years?
