My old inspiron B130 totally crashed, so I reformatted the hard drive, reloaded the OS (windows xp) and downloaded the utilities and the drivers in the order that was recommended. I had NO internet option. I could not connect in any way. I , again, started the whole process over. This time I have internet, but only if I use the network option. In the device manager, I have a device (not named) with a question mark. It says the driver is not installed. I have tried using the Dell site and having it use my service tag to tell me what wireless card is in my computer. It says it has no information regarding my computer. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
B130 laptop was shipped with either of these wireless cards: - 802.11a/b/g Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 - 802.11b/g Dell Wireless 1370 - Dual-Band 802.11a/b/g Dell Wireless 1470
Question mark besides a device in 'Device Manager' indicates a missing driver. Please try the following links to install the wireless card drivers. Try them one by one to identify the correct one: If Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 is installed, click http://dell.to/TgENQR If Dell Wireless 1370 or 1470 is installed click http://dell.to/SFpQGp
As per my current understanding, you are able access the internet on the laptop with the ethernet cable plugged in. However, if needed please use the following link to install the network card driver also: http://dell.to/RndPCM
Download the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Restart the laptop and check the wireless functionality. Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.
