We have a 60+ computer network running on NT4. All computers are running through 1000mb switches (not hubs).
We have 3 computers that are very slow when trying to connect to network shares. We have an Optiplex, a Dimension and an Inspiron laptop. Most of the browsing is fine when going through the network shares. But there are certain folders that take far longer (up to a minute in some cases), to open. On all the other machines on the network, these same folders only take about 1 to 2 seconds to open.
We have moved the laptop to various ports on the switches to no avail. It doesn't matter where it's set up, it's dog slow when trying to open certain folders. The Inspiron and Optiplex have the built in NICs and the Dimension is using a 3Com. We have all three set at 100 full duplex.
Has anyone had any issues like this that can point me in a direction? I have already tried various reg hacks to modify the TCP/IP workings but none of have worked thusfar.
This problem is driving me crazy because nothing works. I have downloaded and installed the latest NIC drivers from the Dell website and still the same thing.
I am having a similar problem. I am looking for a solution as well. We have a Dell Power Edge 6300, NT 4.0, with (3) 100 mbs switches. Recently we added 31 Dell Optiplex sx270 machines, XP Prof. Each of them access varying files from 20 seconds to 2 minute through Explorer.
Prior to the new machine we had (31) Dell Optiplex G1 machines with WIN98 and they accesed the some network in seconds.
I need a quick fix the natives are getting restless... if you know what I mean.
