TCP/IP Bindings issue
(I have a Dell XPS630 Desktop)
This happened suddenly last week after a restart and I have been trying to google all sorts of solutions to no avail.
Basically I can't connect to networks. I get the following error if I try to connect:
The network Adapter "Local Area connection" is not correctly configured to use the IP protocol
>The network adapter "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues
>Make sure your Internet Protocol Bindings are correct Ensure that "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and "Internet PRotocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" are selected in the configuration for the network adapter "Local Area Connection".
Okay, well those are selected, so maybe the drivers are out of date. I reinstall the newest versions of all of the drivers, same problem. Okay, so maybe it's the hardware. I try a spare NIC.
Same problem.
The network Adapter "Local Area connection 2" is not correctly configured to use the IP protocol
>The network adapter "Infineon AN983B PCI Based Fast Ethernet Adapter" is experiencing driver or hardware related issues
>Make sure your Internet Protocol Bindings are correct Ensure that "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and "Internet PRotocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" are selected in the configuration for the network adapter "Local Area Connection".
Since it's unlikely that both pieces of hardware failed, it must be something else. I tried both LSPFix and the Winsock fix, everything was already fine, no changes were made. Everything related to network connections seems to be fine. And it's not any set up errors, I've tried different ports and settings on the router as well as a direct connection to the modem. Additionally my roommates have not had any connectivity issues.
So I'm at a loss here. Aside from a fresh install of an operating system (which I realize now I neglected to mention was Vista 64) is there anything else that I have not tried? I would prefer only to go the reinstall route when I have exhausted all other possibilities because I really do not want to go through that hassle.

I am no expert on vista at all but before I'd jump off the cliff and re-install the os, reboot into safe mode (no networking) and go into the control panel, network settings and delete both TCP/IPv4 and v6. Reboot and go into normal logon. See if they have recreated themselves and if not, manually re-create.
Good luck.
