which modem to request??

Thinking of purchasing a new computer and want to be able to take calls while on line without losing internet connection.
What do I ask to be included?
What modem comes from Dell as standard ?

If you want to make calls while being online you actually need to purchase a seperate phone line. Or go with a different form of internet like broadband. Broadband allows you to surf the internet at faster speeds for about the same price as a second phone line so most people go that way :)

You need a "V.92" modem to use the "modem on hold" features.  Also, your ISP must be V.92 compatible.

Here is an article on V.92  http://www.networkworld.com/news/tech/2000/0911tech.html

But, if you really want to "talk" and be on line at the same time, as suggested go broadband either DSL or cable.

    Thanks Firebird,

Dsl or cable in not availiable at this location.

Dial up or dish is the only option. Got to go with the modem change and hope for the best.
