I recently purchased a new xps 15z from Dell and since then, have been experiencing the following problem.
I have 2 wireless notebooks, may smart phones and a PS3 connected to my netgear dual-band wireless gigabet router . I have never had a connection problem with the internet.
One of the notebooks run windows 7 the other windows XP and the new xps 15z runs windows 7.
Now, since connecting the15z, it seems to "Hog" my wireless connection: when i am on another PC (say the windows 7 notebook - PC1) the 15z gets kicked off (if it was already connected on the network) - and vice a versa (if PC1 was connected first and i turn on the 15z, it kicks off PC1 from the wireless network.)
This kind of back-forth occurs for the PS3 also, so far i havent been able to see the same problem with PC-smart phone connections.
when the network connections are repaired on either computer, they seem to resolve with each other and allows each other to use the wireless connection, but the speed is slower than a crawling snail (so to speak).
I have checked IP conflicts between the PCs and there are no duplicates. the router is set to act as a DHCP Server.
My cable is provided by Time Warner Cable in NYC and they have no problem when i directly connect a computer to the modem via wired connection (no wireless router.)
Please help. Let me know if you need any more info.
Using any cordless 2.4GHz phones? They work on the same frequency as your wireless router.
I would check the settings on your wireless adapters. My suspicions are they might have the same ip address, causing the other wireless device to go offline.
Start, control panel, networking and sharing center, click on your network, properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6, then clcik on properties. Make sure it obtains the IP address automatically.
Thanks for the infor PudgyOne, but all my devices are set to do so and the cordless 24Ghz phone is far away from the router base. Thus i dont really see an interference.
Also, its always worked fine before: the only new change is that i added the dell xps 15z to my list of devices...
Do you have enough IP addresses to allow all the wireless devicesx on your network. I allow for 50 but have about 15 on my network. If there are not enough ip addresses on your wireless network, this could happen.
The 2.4 GHz cordless phone can still disconnect your connection. It can be just the phone ringing, or someone of the phone in another room. It's still using the same frequency as the wireless router. If you can answer the cordless phone, then it can disconnect you. The base unit sends the signal.
But it doesn't solve my problem. Sometimes i get an error message when i use windows to diagnose the problem : it says that the modem / base is having problems connecting to the internet.
My one point is though, that I has NEVER gave me a problem, previous to purchasing this computer....
Also, the phone always worked well, it never disconnected me before, but i do understand that there is the existence of that probability.
This is just frustrating.
I read in a forum that windows 7 might actually have compatibility issues with cable modems / TIme Warner Cable broadband service....and Microsoft just hasn't published that info. as yet.
On the Dell 15z, run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. I'm interested it the network adapters you have.
I also have time warner and am having the exact same problem such purchasing my dell laptop running windows7 Every time we start the laptop , everyone gets kicked off the wireless and we have to shut it down for 20 seconds, than establish all new connections, were ready to throw this out the trash as its not that is hard to do but when your in the middle of something and it goes out, you get upset. How can we fix this problem......... NEW INTERNET CARD NEW CABLE Company, Its getting frustrating as if you cant tell. HELP
I'm having the same types of problems w connectivity and my Dell xps 15z. Can u please help me solve this? I travel often and need to be able to connect seamlessly.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Create a Power Plan
Select High performance.
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
