wireless connectivity

I have an Inspiron 1521/AMD Turion/160g/Vista Home Premium laptop.  I am trying to connect to a wireless Netgear WRG614 v6 router.  I get a good signal reading, but when I try to connect I receive a message "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"

Should I change the computer settings (and how)? or the router settings?

Is wireless security enabled on the router?  If so, is the correct encryption key entered into the profile for this connection?  Are you using Windows to manage the wireless connection or the Dell Wireless Utility?  Are the TCP/IP properties for on the wireless adapter set to "Obtain an IP address automatically"?

The wireless profile in windows do not match with the actual router settings. Either your profile has incorrect password saved, or security settings. Or somebody changed the router settings.

    1. Connect an ethernet cable from laptop to netgear router. Or do the the next steps on another computer that's already connected to the netgear.

    2. Type CMD in Start Search bar to open Command Prompt.

    3. Type "ipconfig" and take note of Default Gateway.

    4. Open Internet Explorer and enter default gateway number, which is usually 192.168.0.1. This should take you to the Netgear setup page, like the image below. If it asks you for a username and password, try default "admin" and "admin," or the word "password" for password. Unless whoever set up the router changed this.

    5. Go to Wireless Settings tab and look for a Network Key. This is the password that you should be entering in the wireless profile that you create in windows.

    6. On your Inspiron 1521, open Network and Sharing Center. Click Manage Wireless Networks link at the left. Delete any profiles you may have created and add your network back with the correct network key.

This should solve your issue. Tell me if it's a go. Ü
