Not booting and cant access bios

  • Hello! Whenever I turn on my pc and try to power it up it just stays on the dell logo. I have an optiplex 790 and I cant access bios as my screen freezes. There's 4 numbers and the combinations of the ones that light up are, 1 & 2 then sometimes 2 & 3 I have tried removing cons battery, using different ram, unplugging hdd, unplugging power to motherboard and also tried booting to external drive. This happened after I set the boot priority to UEFI. 20211207_054735.jpg

After you unplugged PC from wall outlet and removed the motherboard battery, did you press/hold PC's power button for ~30 sec before reinstalling the battery? And if the battery is old, try installing a fresh one before going any further.

What color is power button when you get the LED error codes? That determines exactly which error applies:

LEDs 1+2 with amber power button = A possible system board failure has occurred

LEDs 2+3 with amber power button = BIOS may be corrupt or missing

LEDs 1+2 with blue (green?) power button = Possible expansion card failure has occurred.
(Remove all expansion cards except video and see if it boots)

LEDs 2+3 with blue (green?) power button = (not a documented error code)

The Service Manual including the error codes is here. CAVEAT: The manual isn't available on Dell's Support site, and the link is to a non-Dell site.
