I find this unusual, but then again I have never looked at the MIB file. We do have a program expressly designed to monitor all the PowerEdge Server sensors. We also have a program for monitoring most Dell computers in your organization. Both of these are part of the Dell OpenManage Applications Suite.
I checked the MIB's on the download, but I don't see any that monitor temp. or if one of the power supplies fail. Does Dell have a tool that will monitor those things?
Wow, I just downloaded ITAssistant 6.5. Dell has done quite a bit of upgrading to this software from when I originally installed it. I noticed there is an "Alerts" view. Is it possible to have ITAssistant notify me via email or broadcast if an alert pops up? Do I need to have ITAssistant running all the time?
Also, I noticed that only one other server and two workstations are coming up on the discovery view. It finds the other IP addresses, but it can't give me info on them. What is the minimum amount of software I need to load to get these listed? I really don't want to load the 300MB install for all of these.
I hate to admit it, but I have never actually loaded the new version of IT Assistant. However I can answer your questions in general.
1. Yes, it is possible to have IT Assistant notify you via email, broadcast, pager, etc. for a variety of events and triggers. The IT Assistant services have to be running all the time, but the actual program does not.
Note: The IT Assistant does not have to installed on your server (in fact, I would rather have it on a workstation or laptop)
2. The servers you are trying to discover must have SNMP (set to reade create) and Server Administrator loaded. The Client systems (Optiplex, Latitude and a few of the others) must have the Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation loaded.
There are several users on these forums who are very helpful and experienced with the Dell OpenManage products. Look in the Systems Management > OpenManage Software areas.

Thanks for your help.
How can I find the MIB's for my other servers?
