Last night I installed x6 2GB (Dual Ranked) PC3-10600 ECC RDIMM's in to my T310 (w/ Xeon X3440), and it did not work. Removing the RDIMM's from slot 5 and 6 resulted in the system working normally. All the RDIMM's are healthy, the ones pulled from 5 & 6, work in 3&4, not to mention this RAM was pulled from a functioning server to begin with.
On page 36 - Table 9, it suggests x6 2GB 1333 RDIMM's is supported (PC3-10600 = DDR3-1333Mhz, right?)
on page 38 - Table 12, it suggests by the *, that Dual Ranked RDIMMS are only supported in all three channels; if they are in 16GB or 32GB configuration (which neither is divisible by 6, so not sure how this applies)
on page 40 - Table 8, is suggests 2GB RDIMM's are supported for 12GB using 6 RDIMM's
Do I need a BIOS update? I could use some clarification, and possibly might enjoy the functional theory behind why this isn't working.

We can only ascertain so much from the information you provide to us and I do apologize for the assumption. Now that we have established you do have UDIMM's and not RDIMM's, we can tell you that guide book is correct on UDIMM's. It will only support 8gb of RAM using 2gb UDIMM's, in 4 slots or 16gb using 4gb UDIMM's. RDIMM's are supported in all 6 slots.
You asked me what the part number for the RAM was. What leads you to think they are not ALL the same part number, and that I'm mixing?
As I said, they were all taken out of a Dell R710, and were working. I can use any 4 (of the 6 I have) in the server (as I switched 5/6 with 3/4), but when I try to use all 6 at once, I get the error.
While I appreciate your clarification that this is ECC/UDIMM and not ECC/RDIMM, there is not a mixing issue here, however, your observation might still be significant.
Table 8 on Page 34, Figure 20 on page 36, and Table 14 on page 38 & 39 each suggest that only 4 sticks of UDIMM are supported.
You have just stated "You will need all RDIMM's or all UDIMM's in your configuration." Since we've now established I have all UDIMM, and not RDIMM, do you still stand by this statement?

What other firmware updates would you suggest. I don't see any that I can figure would apply.
The visible event is on the LED Panel, the number 1 remains lit, and no other number LED's light. The blue dot turns to amber and slow blinks indefinately.
The Fans spin up for a bit, once the amber dot starts blinking, the fans slow back down.
This part number is for a UDIMM. They cannot be mixed with RDIMM's on any of our servers. You will need all RDIMM's or all UDIMM's in your configuration.

I was mistaken as to the type of RAM that it was. I have no explanation other than I didn't think UDIMM was ever dual ranked. Clearly I was incorrect.
Knowing this memory came out of an R710, why does one system support all of this RAM, and another does not? What's the difference?
Is it because my R710 is dual processor; and effectively these UDIMM's installed are only 3 per processor? I would have the same issue if I tried to install say 10 UDIMM's in an R710 (using more than 4 slots per processor)?
The R710 support limits UDIMM's to 2 per channel as well. Each side of the R710 has 3 channels. It will support up to 24gb of UDIMM's with memory on both sides with 2 processors.
