SC1430 CPU upgrade not working
Hi,
We have a 1430 that came with a Dual core Xeon E5120 1.8Ghz 1066Mhz FSB CPU and original Bios 1.1
I flashed the bios to the latest version 1.4 and purchased two Xeon E5335 Quad Core 2.0Gh Details below:

I used the Dell web site <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
to make sure I got the right ones, and both have the same stepping (SLAEK) identical CPU's in fact.
However. Even with one CPU in I get the dreaded "Unsupported cpu combination, system halted" in yello when trying to boot.
I've tried with:
- One CPU in socket 0
- One CPU in both socket 0 and 1
- Taking the CPU out of Socket 1 and putting it in Socket 0
- Swapping both CPU's around to test
- Clearing the CMOS jumper
Have I done something wrong? I thought I had checked thoroughly that these CPU's would work. :(
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

BiffaY,
For the 1430 to support the QuadCore proc there was a motherboard revision. Send me a PM with your service tag and I will check to see if the systemboard you have supports the new procs.Reply Dennis Smith

It looks like the systemboard revision you have does not support quadcore procs. Just in case, the part number for that board is PR704.Reply Dennis Smith

You are correct on the part numbers, and from what I see the systemboard you have will not support any of the quad cores.Reply Hi Dennis,
I was wondering if you could help me with a piece of information:
I have a server Dell Poweredge SC1430 and I would like to know if it supports the Quad Core -Xeon 5300 series processors. The motherboard is part RH096, the service tag is<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>Thank you very much for your help

Darn, thats not good :(
So to be specific?.
I have the original motherboard:
HD812 PESC1430 MotherBoard * TM894*
And I would need:
UW816 PESC1430 G1 Clover Town MotherBoard * PR704*
Does the TM894 motherboard support any quad core Xeon?
Thanks
