I have been having issues with a disk in my PowerEdge 2900 server with Perc 6/i contolled RAID Array and have one of 4 disks removed, leaving 3 running degraded. I have attempted to replace the bad one with the same disk and two replacements failed to work in the array. One continued to give and error code 1810 and the second one gave me a blue screen when I hot swapped it in. I have installed the Dell Online Diagnostics Verison 2.20.0 and run tests on the Controller. I selected the tests starting at the SAS/SATA backplane, which includes controller and disk self tests. On the Disk 2 (of 0,1 and 2), I got a failure, specifically a "Device reported read failure: Check SAS cable connections and run this test again. If this error persists, it indicates a hardware problem." The other two disks executed the test and passed.
So the question is, what is the best way to proceed? Can I move the disk to the second set of four slots in the backplane without damaging the RAID array? I did put the bad replacement disk in my own machine and it initialized fine, so I am not sure that the disk is really the problem or possibly the backplane itself. Any advise is appreciated.
I have it installed but for whatever reason Internet Explore is not able to get to the page at https://dell-server:1311/?authType=ntlm&locallogin=true&application=omsa
It says I am not connected to the Internet. I have installed it since the last reboot, and also done the BIOS and other firmware/driver updates recommended by this forum, and am hoping once I get to reboot it (maybe tonight after work) the web server will respond and I can use OMSA.
I guess I will be able to get a better idea later after the reboot. Also, I am remote, so unable to get to the BIOS.
OK, I have OMSA installed and running, and have all the firmware and drivers updated.
I can see that I set the system up in RAID10 with 4 drives. Drive 0 is missing, as I have it removed.
So back to the original question. But first, to answer Chris's question, in the OMSA, all drives look good and do not show predicted failures. So what next?
