T620 - 8 disk backplane - 2 controllers - can I do it?

Hello,

I have T620 with 8 DIsk backplane with 4 sas disks in it - connected to H310 (what a POS), need to install additional controller - 3ware 9650 and 4 additional disks (1TB SAS). Question is: can I have both controllers connected to the same backplane at the same time and functional? Each controller would be connected through a separate connector (there are 2 connectors on the backplane).

thanks in advance!

This server will support  a maximum of 2 internal controllers and one external controller; You can find more information here in the techinical guide:

    http://i.dell.com/sites/content/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/dell-poweredge-t620-technical-guide.pdf

This is the list of supported controllers: S110, H310, H710, H710P and H810.  Any other controller may or may not work, as they haven't tested or certified.

Ok, so there is no limitation like 'given backplane and be connected to only one controller'? My concern was not having multiple controllers, I was concerned about connecting both controllers to the same backplane.

    thanks

    Hello,

yes you can connect one perc on SAS A connector and the other PERC on SAS B connector.

    Thanks

    Hi Marco,

    Thanks for the answer.

Just to be precise I will add DELL 9260-8i card in addition to PERC h710. And I have 12 LFF backplane.

Will the first card occupy the first 6 slots and the second one occupy the rest ?

    Regards,

    Mnd

    Mndshayeb,

There is a couple issues with that. The first issue is that the 9260-8i isn't supported on the T620, and the second would be that the T620 only supports dual controllers on the 2.5in drive configuration.

Let me know if this helps.

OK. May I know what is the use of two SAS ports on the backplane ? Is it for multipathing ?
