Power Edge 2550 Installation Loop
I have just started to rebuild one of our 2550's . I have gone through the routine using the dell assistant manger boot cdrom then following the prompts installing windows server 2000. It goes through all the install as per normal but when it converts the fat partition to NTFS it then gets caught in a loop, It says it has scheduled a scandisk and then goes through until the end of the scandisk and then restarts for no reason.
Its using bios rev A08
Embedded server management Firmware 5.50
Primary system backplane controller Firmware 1.30
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Sam

Hi, Sam.
The error you are describing is often caused by the presence of a Windows 2000 dynamic disk still on the system. The most likely solution to the install loop you are experiencing is to low-level format the hard disks involved (which can be done using the CTRL-A management utility available with any Adaptec-based SCSI or RAID controller) and recreate any necessary RAID arrays, thus permanently clearing any dynamic disk configurations off the disks. Openmanage Server Assistant installs should then proceed normally.
