NAS 715 Boot problem Help

We have a NAS 715 that will not boot.

A few questions

- Can the disks be used in another device so as to read the data on them? If so does it have to be another 715

- If the probelm is hardware related what is it likely to be as it just hangs.

- Can an external boot device be used which would keep the RAID intact and so allow the data to be read?

Dell support have suggested removing the disks and sending to a professional recovery firm, but the main idea of RAID is to negate the need for this. It is only software RAID but should offer enough resience to somehow get it back to life and read the data.

Any advice would be appreciated

The 715N has a mirror image on the D drive that you can boot off of.

    Try this.

    Power down the NAS.

SWAP disk 2 with Disk 0

SWAP disk 3 with Disk 1

Put the bezel back on and boot up.

the system will come up with the netbios name of DELLxxxxxxx  (where xxxxxx is the service tag of the unit). It will come up looking for a DHCP address, check your dchp server for the ip address to connect to. It will use the default login name from the factory, this is contained in your documentation or you can call support to get the information
