TL2000 indicates that all the tapes are "bad tape." I used a new cleaning tape, were also used new data tapes but to no avail. ITDT Tool indicates an error EC 6 during testing. Updated to the latest firmware. Any ideas?
With an EC 6 error that is means that there is an issue with the drive or the media. The best way to tell which one is the issue is to gather a drive dump from the drive so that we can look at the dump to see if the drive is the issue or if it is the media. You can use ITDT to gather a drive dump log.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
if your sure your tapes are good then unfortunately yes, you can get error 6 from a tapes not loading correctly into the drive as well. either way it looks like a drive issue
I will send you an email to the address that is in your profile. You can send me the log so that I can review it to see what is going on with the drive.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for sending over the drive dump log as it helps with looking into your issue. So at looking at the log I can see that there is an error that is happening during writing to media. Now normally when this happens you want to check both the media and the drive. Now I can see in the logs that this error has happened on 2 different tapes Serial# 40X4F7EV, & 40801304. Also I noticed that the drive is only running firmware C7QJ and the latest version for your tape drive is G361. Here is the link to the firmware just in case you need it. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=FGJ3T&fileId=3558359910&osCode=WNT5&productCode=powervault-tl2000&languageCode=en&categoryId=TA
If after upgrading the firmware you are still getting the error using different media other than the 2 listed then I would say that the issue is with the drive and it will need to be replaced.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
