Go to SolutionAdding ODD to Precision 5820 Tower
This was sort of asked in a different post, but the answer didn't seem to quite apply; sorry for "re-asking".
I have a 5820, and am using all four bays with HDDs. I also have the slimline ODD, which is DREADFUL for ripping audio CDs, so I'm looking to populate the 5.25" bay with an optical drive. I have a SATA *data* connector hanging free at the back of that empty bay, but I don't see a corresponding *power* connector.
Is there a SATA power cable buried under there that I just didn't see? Is there a header I can pull power from?
I haven't removed many parts from that section of the machine, but I ASSUME I can get to the slimline drive.
Can I just use some sort of Y-cable for power (perhaps from the slimline drive), and use the data cable that's already in the case? Or is this one of those "if you've installed this, you can't install that" kinds of things (a la four hard drives and Dell's NVMe kit)?

This problem is not new and spans beyond DELL. All the modern optical drives are inferior to 2000s models in CDA R/W.
1)Use EAC, or at least enable error control in iTunes.
2)Speed down the drive (I did not try, because almost do not use DVD).
3)power connectors are plugged in during assembly. Contact Dell manager to see if you can get them separately, or purchase at ebay.
4) Additional full-size optical drive is normally added to the left of the slim. You need a dedicated holder. P/N 1B4323500

There may be a spare power cable held in the area on the right of the power supply ( or just under it ), please check

Thank you, mazzinia, there WAS a power cable in the area -- it was looped back around, and the connector was curled up inside the end of the power supply, so I couldn't tell that it was free.
EAC is now busily ripping an old audio CD.

Sorry to revive a 2 year old thread but I am in the same position with that power cable and the video that was linked to https://qrl.dell.com/Product/Detail/162 is no longer present.
I'd appreciate a little guidance.

Open the case panel and looking at the bottom surface of the power supply. A SATA power cable is tucked along the power supply together with a 10-pin power cable for motherboard.

Ce câble S.A.T.A. power n'est pas présent dans le boitier, je souhaite avoir la référence pour l'acquérir.
This S.A.T.A. power cable is not present in the box, I would like to have the reference to acquire it.

update
https://qrl.dell.com/Product/Detail/162 , check at 1:34 and onward, shows that a power cable is located in that position. Please confirm if present
